Trail Rides
Please come out to enjoy a TROT trail ride and consider leading a ride yourself! TROT trail rides are fun and a great opportunity to learn new trails, meet other TROT members, and find a new trail riding buddy. To lead a ride, contact our trail ride coordinator, Trot Activity.
To participate in a scheduled ride:
- Contact the ride leader to sign-up and learn the ride’s starting time and other details.
- If a ride is postponed or cancelled, the ride leader will notify you.
- Check the TROT website and TROT and Maryland Trail Riders listservs for the most current ride information.
- All ride participants:
- Helmets are encouraged
- Provide appropriate documentation of current negative Coggins test for the horse, in compliance with Maryland state law.
- Be a TROT member – One-day TROT memberships are available at the ride for $5
If you need a ride to the event or can offer one, please email Trot Activity, so that this information can be included in an upcoming newsletter, or contact the ride leader.
Trail Maintenance
Anytime you are on a trail ride and if safe to do so, you can perform trail maintenance by clipping branches that impede passageway along a trail. In addition, you can participate in scheduled trail maintenance days.
Carolann Sharpe is the TROT Adopt-A-Trail coordinator and she has challenged all TROT members to perform two hours of trail maintenance a year. Please contact Carolann for additional information about participating in trail maintenance activities. She can be reached at president@trot-md.org.
Please report your trail work hours to Amy, who tracks this information for the state; these hours also help assess park usage.

Lateral Movements Dressage Clinic Series at Wyndham Oaks with Marion Alway

Show season will be here before we know it, so perfect your lateral dressage movements with Marion Alway in our two-part dressage clinic series. This clinic will focus on building individual components to be able to achieve advanced dressage movements.
The first session will introduce the topic and go over more in-depth theory, while the second session will build on the application. The two-part clinic is designed to help give the rider time in between sessions to work on “homework”.
The semi-private lessons will be no more than two individuals and pairings will be done by rider/horse level. Please indicate your riding level (for either yourself or if you have a young horse) so we can properly pair you. Register as an individual, or if registering with a friend, please indicate who you’d like to ride with.
Whether you are new to dressage or have been riding dressage for years, this clinic will help to build a strong foundation for advanced dressage movements. Get your winter homework so you are ready to rock in spring shows! The clinic dates are spaced about 3 weeks apart to give you plenty of time to work on your homework and return to continue your progress. Participants will benefit the most from attendance in both sessions as it builds, so we have a discounted registration for both dates.

The clinic lessons can be done in several ways:
- You can ride and have your lesson on horseback, and/or have Wendy use the Sure Foot pads on your horse.
- You can have unmounted body work done by Wendy (Functional Integration Feldenkraiss)
- You can do a session on Wendy’s instructive horse simulator-it’s like a big, rolling, rocking horse that only is evenly balanced and moving properly when your seat and body are correct.
- The simulator is quite popular as it really highlights any rider body imbalances and facilitates corrections to the riders position.
- NOTE: **If using the simulator, please bring your riding helmet, as well as your saddle with stirrups attached.**
Each private session is 45 minutes long.
The cost for any session in the clinic is $160 for Good News boarders and $170 to non-boarders. Checks should be made payable to Good News Stable.
Please text Caroline Jordan on 301 424-4562 if you are interested in having a lesson with Wendy.
