Baltimore and Annapolis Trail

Baltimore and Annapolis Trail

Trail Description: The Baltimore & Annapolis Trail Park is a 13.3 mile asphalt trail linking schools, suburban homes and apartments, shopping centers and malls, and churches. It follows the route of the old B & A Shortline Railroad, a light interurban line that connected the state capital of Annapolis to the city of Baltimore with passenger and light rail freight service. The B & A Trail is noted for a high level of community service and beautification projects along the route. Community volunteers are encouraged to adopt sections of the trail and maintain flowerbeds and assist the County Park Rangers with patrol and visitor service functions. Forty five Eagle Scouts have completed service projects along the trail and dozens of other youth groups have planted trees and flowering shrubs. Eighty families and individuals have adopted flowerbeds along the route. The Friends of the B & A Trail have also added a beautifully landscaped garden in Severna Park, called Hatton-Regester Green, which features flowers, a small pond and a gazebo for concerts. All of the flowerbeds are maintained by four chapters of the Federated Garden Clubs of America. The B & A Trail is one of the most heavily visited parks in Maryland.
